When I talk to other parents, so many seem lost when it comes to providing their children with the right nutrition. “How often should they be allowed sweets? What if they have allergies? How do I stop them from over eating?” These are all questions I’ve heard many times before and with so many different healthy kids lunch box ideas, advice columns and products out there, how do we know what is actually healthy for our children? As a guide, we’ve put together a list of what we believe to be healthy lunch box ideas for kids. You can read the list by clicking here.

Healthy Lunchbox Ideas for Kids

To make lunch boxes simple, I tend to follow a general formula that includes:
  • 1 x main meal packed with nutrients
  • 1 x savoury snack
  • 1 x sweeter snack
  • 1 x small snack

This formula will help you make sure that your little ones aren’t over eating or under eating. It also means that you can experiment with all our BakeSw@p healthy lunch box recipes and change things up every day!

The key to all healthy lunch box recipes is variety. Ensure that your child’s lunch box includes a combination of vegetables, fruits, grains, meats and dairy.  Soon, your child will be on their way to a better, healthier lifestyle that will help them make more informed decisions in the future.

Our Lunch Box Ideas for Kids of all ages:

Main meals:
  • Sandwiches – choose seeded breads and those high in fibre and low in GI. Add fillings such as lettuce, tomato, chicken, ham, onion or cheese and try avoiding heavy sauces or fatty meats such as salami.
  • Salads – add all of your vegetables or try a fruit salad instead. Add meat to mix things up. We love a good tuna pasta salad!
  • Healthy pasta (wholemeal/spelt/buckwheat)
  • Rice stir-fry
  • Sushi
  • Rice paper rolls

Savoury snacks:
  • Biscuits – there are so many healthy lunch box recipes for homemade biscuits
  • Celery/carrots with peanut butter or cream cheese dip
  • Mini frittatas
  • Pizza scrolls
  • Savoury muffins

Sweeter snacks:
  • Cut up fruit
