More ways to BakeSw@p - it’s not just for kids!

BakeSw@p makes life easier and more delicious for you in so many ways.

BakeSw@p is not just for kids.

The beauty of BakeSw@p is you bake just once and swap for as many different things as there are members in your circle! Try BakeSw@p for your morning tea roster at work or playgroup.  A dinner roster is great for busy singles and couples or for when someone has a new baby or a sick friend needs a hand.  BakeSw@p makes organising a cake stall fundraiser a breeze and can help you work out the meal-sharing plan for a group of families going on holiday together.  The list is endless.

You can create a circle to suit just about any occasion where there is an opportunity to share the baking load and then enjoy the delicious rewards. BakeSw@p organises everything (so you don’t have to send endless emails and texts to each other) and gives you a wealth of information to help make your life easier, healthier and more delicious. The ‘bake’ and ‘swap’ are customised by the BakeSw@p circle.

Create a BakeSw@p circle for just about anything

You can create a BakeSw@p circle for almost any purpose of your choosing.  Here are a few we’ve come up with:
  • School lunchbox – great for school recess morning tea, families with food allergies, after school snacks
  • Morning or afternoon tea roster – great for morning or afternoon tea at work, playgroup, book club
  • Cake stall fundraiser – great for cake stalls, bring-a-plate, sporting club wind-ups, weekend sport host club morning tea, shared classroom lunch, school events, quiz nights, end of season functions
  • Dinner roster – great for busy singles or couples, mums with a new baby, a sick friend, salad swaps, camping trips with friends
  • Special occasion catering – great for birthday parties, special occasions, celebrations, Christmas lunch
  • Playdough rainbow – great for playdough, craft stations

Circle Purpose: School lunchbox

Great for: school recess morning tea, families with food allergies, after school snacks

Bake just once a week and BakeSw@p to get a different lunchbox treat for every day of the school week. You can’t bake and store five different snacks a week.  Kids get bored easily and don’t eat what you make. It’s hard to find and expensive to buy ‘healthy’ snacks.

It takes only a little extra effort to bake a double batch of 24 items giving you 6 for your lunchboxes or freezer and 18 to swap. 24 pieces (the 6 you keep and the 18 you swap) will give you a bounty of healthy, delicious items to cover morning and afternoon tea all week for 2 children with a few pieces to spare for a playdate.  Or morning tea for up to 5 children for a week.  All from just one BakeSw@p.

If someone in your family has a food allergy you can create a circle of members who share the same allergy or ensure that your circle avoids certain ingredients when they bake. BakeSw@p can even help you discover other BakeSw@ppers near you with the same allergy by using the DISCOVER function.  Go to the DISCOVER page to find out more.

The sw@p takes place at a time and place convenient to all members – ideally somewhere you already meet, like school drop off for example.

Create Circle – School lunchbox
To create a circle to help make school lunchboxes easier and more delicious choose:
  • School Lunchbox as your circle purpose.
  • Regular as your circle sw@p frequency
  • Everyone swaps each round on the same day as your sw@p plan

Circle Purpose: Morning or afternoon tea roster

Great for: morning or afternoon tea at work, playgroup, book club

Take turns to bring in morning or afternoon tea for your work friends every Friday (or every day if you like!) Or a delicious spread of decadent treats for your weeknight book club. It’s great for playgroup too - make something healthy for the children and something decadent to treat the mums at your playgroup.  One person can make both or have a separate circle for each.

This works for any occasion where you take it in turns to cater each time you get together. One person provides the morning or afternoon tea treats and the next time you get together it’s another circle member’s turn.

Create Circle – Morning or afternoon tea roster
To create a circle to help make morning or afternoon tea easier and more delicious choose:
  • Morning or afternoon tea roster as your circle purpose.
  • Regular as your circle sw@p frequency (or 'once-only' if it’s a one off event)
  • Everyone swaps each round on the same day as your sw@p plan if you plan to all bake and swap on one day OR 'Everyone swaps each round on a different day' if you plan to take turns to bring morning or afternoon tea on different days

Circle Purpose:  Cake stall fundraisers

Great for: cake stalls, bring-a-plate, sporting club wind-ups, weekend sport host club morning tea, shared classroom lunch, school events, quiz nights, end of season functions

BakeSw@p makes it easy to co-ordinate a large group of bakers to bring something along to an event.  It makes it super easy for the organiser to see how many people are participating and who is bringing what – so you get a good variety of items and can work out ahead of time if you’ll have enough food!

It’s great for one-off events like sporting club wind-ups, or other end of season functions, when you want everyone to bring a plate to share. Perhaps you are the host club for weekend football or cricket and need all the club mums to bring a plate this Saturday? Or there is a shared lunch in the classroom at the end of school term. If you’re organising a fundraiser cake stall it makes life easy. Or coordinating mums to make cookies and cakes to sell at the school fair or the Year 3 disco.

One of the best things about this circle purpose is that it virtually eliminates the deluge of emails that is usually unavoidable (like the dreaded ‘reply-all’) when organising larger scale, ad hoc or one-off events. Circle members only send and receive email communications (circle alerts) specific to their participation. For example if they are participating, what they are making and a final confirmation the day prior to the event.  It also makes the event organiser’s job a breeze – well this part of it anyway!

BakeSw@p’s DISCOVER function can really help to make this kind of occasion a huge success.  BakeSw@p can help you get in touch with (or ‘Discover’) other BakeSw@ppers who live near you, have children at the same school or food allergies in common.  If you want to get a group of BakeSw@ppers in your community or at your school together to bake for a fundraiser BakeSw@p can help.

Create Circle – Cake stall fundraiser
To create a circle to help make coordinating large groups easier and more delicious choose:
  • Cake stall fundraiser as your circle purpose.
  • Once only as your circle sw@p frequency (or 'regular' if it’s going to happen more than once)
  • Everyone swaps each round on the same day as your sw@p plan if you plan to all bake and bring your goodies on one day

Circle Purpose: Dinner roster

Great for: busy singles or couples, mums with a new baby, a sick friend, salad swaps, camping trips with friends

You can have a Sw@p event across the course of a week where a different member 'sw@ps' each day. For example a nightly dinner roster or a daily morning tea roster. You simply nominate the day you will sw@p when you choose your bake.

Dinner roster for busy singles and couples
A dinner roster is a great way for busy singles and couples to enjoy cooking a delicious dinner but not have to eat it every night for a week… Take it in turns to cook a big batch of something special once a week to enjoy for your dinner that night and then share the rest with your baking circle by taking it to work the next day or walking it round to your neighbours at dinner time, for example.  A circle size of between 3 and 5 members works well here.

Dinner roster for new mums or a sick friend
A dinner roster can make a huge difference to a sick friend or a mum with a new baby – especially when they don’t have to worry about their family’s evening meal.

It’s easy to help out a friend by making an extra meal when you make your own family dinner and then delivering it to your friend in need around dinner time. With a well-organised roster each circle member might only need to make an extra meal every couple of weeks or so.  Which is easy when you can plan ahead.

You work out which days the dinner roster will work (four nights a week might be plenty for example), the delivery time and who will make what. The best thing about this is your friend will receive a variety of delicious dinners you know they will enjoy instead of yet another lasagna to add to the five others already in the freezer.

It works like this.  You set the frequency for weekly, for example, and create a circle of friends. And then each week those circle members who can help respond to the baking confirmation alert. The more circle members you have the less frequently you each need to make dinner for your friend in need.

Swap a nightly salad
Want to try something more adventurous on the salad front? It’s a big ask for a busy mum to create an amazing side dish along with everything else at dinner time. So get onboard the current salad swapping movement and take turns to create something a bit special once a week and share it with your friends.  Swap it at school or walk it around the neighbourhood around dinner time.

Camping trips with friends
It’s really fun to go on holidays with friends.  BakeSw@p can make self-catering holidays a breeze by helping you organise a nightly dinner roster before your trip.  That way you can plan ahead in terms of what you need to take and you can look forward to enjoying a delicious variety of evening meals during your holiday.

Create Circle – Dinner roster
To create a circle to help make coordinating dinner rosters easier and more delicious choose:
  • Dinner roster as your circle purpose.
  • Regular as your circle sw@p frequency (or 'once-only' if it’s going to happen just once)
  • Everyone swaps each round on a different day as your sw@p plan if you plan to take it in turns to bake and share

Circle Purpose: Special occasion catering

Great for: birthday parties, special occasions, celebrations, Christmas lunch

Birthday parties and celebrations
Throwing a birthday party – for a child or an adult – while a labour of love takes a lot of effort.  Share the load of making a variety of delicious party food.  It’s easy for everyone in your circle to bring one thing (as a guest they only have to turn up!) which means you don’t have to make so much and can focus on making the party special for your family member or friend. Plus you won’t end up with eight plates of chocolate crackles… Then, as and when each of your fellow circle members next celebrate a special occasion with a party you can return the favour by making one thing to take along.

All you have to do is create a circle of friends who will each have at least one event similar to yours during the course of the year. When your event draws near you initiate a circle round and BakeSw@p will help make it easy to coordinate the rest. You can put your BakeSw@p circle into hiatus between occasions, activating it when you need it.

Christmas lunch
At Christmas time you can easily coordinate your lunch or dinner menu by creating a circle and inviting the family and friends who will join you for the celebration to nominate what they will contribute to your festive spread.  That way you can share the load and enjoy the delicious rewards of the right number of entrees, mains, salads and desserts! And without the need for endless phone calls, texts and emails about the menu.

Create Circle – Special occasion
To create a circle to help make your special occasions easier and more delicious choose:
  • Special occasion catering as your circle purpose.
  • Once only as your circle sw@p frequency (or 'regular' if it’s going to happen more than once – you can set hiatus periods)
  • Everyone swaps each round on the same day as your sw@p plan if you plan to all bake and bring your goodies on one day

Circle Purpose: Playdough rainbow

Great for: playdough, craft stations

If your kids like a rainbow of playdough colours then BakeSw@p can help. Make a big batch of playdough in one colour each, divide it up and swap.  BakeSw@p can help make sure everyone makes a different colour and you end up with the right number of portions for your sw@p.  Check out the playdough recipe on the site.

You can set this up as a regular event – at our place the rainbow of colours has become a homogenous lump of brown within a few weeks! Perhaps do this on a monthly basis.  Or as an occasional or one-off event.

This circle is great for anything that you need in multiple colours or styles. Try it for craft stalls - like gingerbread decorating or making edible Christmas decorations – where you need lots of icing in different colours or biscuits in different shapes.
